Caritas Lebanon Concludes General Assembly

Caritas Lebanon held its second ordinary general assembly at the conclusion of the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops meeting. The gathering was attended by His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, Patriarch Joseph Absi, bishops, superiors general, regional presidents, and members of Caritas Lebanon.

In his final address as president, Father Michel Abboud reviewed five years of service amid Lebanon’s crises, including the financial collapse, Beirut port explosion, COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2024 war. He highlighted Caritas’s growth in services and partnerships, the achievement of the CIMS international compliance certification, and the organization’s financial progress, with the budget rising from $10 million in 2020 to $32 million in 2025.

 

The assembly also presented the 2025 activity report, delivered by Secretary-General Fadi Karam, and the 2026 budget, approved by the members. Father Abboud concluded by affirming Caritas as “a house of love” and called for continued service in unity and partnership with the Church.
